how to crochet fpdc and bpdc

Front post double crochet (FPDC)  and  back post double crochet (BPDC) are really handy stitches to know. These stitches are especially helpful when you want to create more interesting patterns, like a cable or the basket weave stitch.

At first look it may seem difficult, but when you learn it, you'll enjoy making patterns with these stitches.

For both of these stitches you should start with regular double crochet row/round.

Watch free video tutorial here.

Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC):

1. chain 2
2. Yarn over and insert your hook from front to back between the posts of the first and second double crochet of the row below, and then from back to front again between the posts of the second and third stitches

3. Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch
4. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook, twice (regular dc)

Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC):
This stitch is the inverse of the FPDC
1. chain 2
2. Yarn over and insert your hook from back to front between the posts of the first and second double crochet in the row below, and then from front to back again between the posts of the second and third stitches
3. Yarn over and draw the yarn around the post of the stitch
4. Yarn over and draw the yarn through the 2 loops on the hook, twice (regular dc)
